- Up to 10 m²: 5,000 - 7,000 BTU
- 10 - 20 m²: 7,000 - 9,000 BTU
- 20 - 30 m²: 9,000 - 12,000 BTU
- 30 - 40 m²: 12,000 - 14,000 BTU
How do I vent a portable AC unit?
An air conditioning unit should usually be vented out a window or door, if possible. Most portable AC units will come with a flexible hose and/or a window kit that will help to seal the opening while letting your unit exhaust the hot air outside.
Are portable air conditioners expensive to run?
Running costs depend on the unit’s energy rating, the BTU output, and how often it’s used. A typical 9,000-12,000 BTU unit consumes between 1-1.5 kW per hour, so if you’re paying around 30p per kWh, that’s roughly 30-45p per hour of use. To keep costs down, use the timer function, close doors and windows while it’s operating, and choose an appropriately sized unit for your room.
How do portable AC units work?
Portable air conditioning units work by drawing warm air from a room, passing it over internal cooling coils to reduce the temperature, and then expelling the heat outside through an exhaust hose while circulating the cooled air back into the space.
