What is an electric radiator and how does it heat the room
An electric radiator is a sealed appliance that turns electricity into heat and then releases that heat steadily into the room. Inside, different technologies achieve the same goal in slightly different ways. Oil filled radiators warm a specially formulated fluid that holds heat well and releases it smoothly. Dry thermal and ceramic core radiators warm dense internal elements that store and release heat with impressive stability. Panel convectors focus on moving warm air quickly for a fast response. The choice sounds complicated at first, yet the main difference you will notice is how each type balances speed of warm up against how long it holds its heat after switch off.
Choosing the right size and wattage
Getting the wattage right is more important than any finish or feature. As a simple guide, many modern, well insulated UK rooms need roughly 100 watts per square metre of floor area. Older rooms or conservatories can need more due to heat loss, sometimes up to 150 watts per square metre. As an example, a 12 square metre bedroom in a typical house often suits a 1200 watt radiator, while a draughtier 12 square metre space may benefit from 1500 watts. If you are unsure, round up rather than down. A correctly sized electric radiator will reach temperature faster and then modulate gently, which feels more comfortable and can be more efficient in practice.
