The Difference Between Maintained and Non Maintained Emergency Lights

To comply with building regulations public buildings should have working emergency lighting such as the LED emergency lights supplied at Alert Electrical. There are two types emergency lights or emergency light settings that you should be aware of when fitting emergency lights:

• A non-maintained emergency light is an emergency light that is only deployed in an emergency situation, which might include failure of the mains power system, so this type of light will require connection to a backup source of power (usually an internal battery).
• A maintained emergency light is an “always on” light which remains lit continuously. It’s often used in buildings likely to have members of the public unfamiliar with the building layout. The maintained emergency light ensures they are able to see their way around fire escapes etc during evacuations where there has not been a mains power failure.
