What is a dMEV extractor fan and how is it different from a standard extractor fan?
A dMEV (decentralised Mechanical Extract Ventilation) fan is a continuous running extractor fan designed to provide constant low-level ventilation, with the ability to boost airflow when needed. Unlike traditional extractor fans that only operate when switched on, dMEV fans are always on. This helps to reduce condensation and mould and improve the indoor air quality.
Where should a dMEV fan be installed?
dMEV fans are usually installed in rooms categorised as wet rooms (bathrooms, ensuites, utility rooms and kitchens).
They’re designed to operate on rooms with high, especially in airtight or well-insulated properties. Most models can be wall-mounted, ceiling-mounted, or ducted depending on the layout and design of the space.
Do dMEV fans make a lot of noise?
One of the benefits of dMEV tech is quiet operation. Because they run continuously at low speed, most dMEV fans operate at noise levels below 20 dB(A), which is quieter than a whisper. Look for models with acoustic lining or silent-mode settings if noise is a particular concern.
