Lewden

The Lewden B100/30/2B RCCB is a 100A, 2-pole, 30mA Type B residual current circuit breaker designed for installations where residual currents may include AC, pulsating DC and smooth DC components.

Unlike more conventional Type AC or Type A devices, a Type B RCCB is intended for applications where electronic power conversion equipment can generate residual current waveforms that require Type B detection. This makes the Lewden B100/30/2B particularly relevant to correctly designed installations incorporating equipment such as EV charging, photovoltaic systems, variable-frequency drives, inverters and other power-electronic loads, where Type B protection is specified by the equipment manufacturer or system design.

Lewden 100A 2 Pole 30mA Type B RCCB | B100/30/2B

Type B Residual Current Protection for Specialist Electrical Installations

Type B Residual Current Detection

The defining feature of the B100/30/2B is its Type B residual current classification.

Type B RCDs extend residual-current detection beyond the capabilities associated with Type AC and Type A devices. They are designed for circuits where equipment may generate residual currents containing smooth DC components, as well as other residual-current waveforms covered by the device's Type B classification.

This makes correct RCD selection particularly important in installations containing modern power electronics.

100A Rated Current

With a rated current of 100A, the B100/30/2B is suitable for circuits and distribution arrangements designed around this current rating.

The RCCB must still be correctly coordinated with the installation's overcurrent protective devices. An RCCB provides residual-current protection and should not be treated as an MCB or RCBO providing overload and short-circuit protection by itself.

30mA Residual Operating Current

The Lewden B100/30/2B has a rated residual operating current of 30mA.

A 30mA RCD is commonly used where additional protection against electric shock is required, subject to the requirements of the installation, applicable wiring regulations and connected equipment.

2-Pole Switching

The 2-pole configuration makes the B100/30/2B suitable for appropriate single-phase applications where both live conductors need to be switched by the RCCB.

Its DIN rail format allows integration into suitably designed compatible distribution equipment.

Ideal for Modern Power-Electronic Loads

Modern electrical equipment increasingly incorporates rectifiers, inverters and other electronic power-conversion circuits. Depending on their design, these loads can produce residual-current waveforms that differ significantly from a conventional sinusoidal AC earth leakage current.

Potential applications for a Type B RCCB can therefore include:

  • EV charging equipment
  • Solar PV installations
  • Inverter-fed equipment
  • Variable-frequency drives
  • Motor-control equipment
  • UPS systems
  • Power converters
  • Certain industrial machinery

Type B protection should be selected according to the specific equipment manufacturer's requirements and electrical system design. The presence of an EV charger, inverter or PV system does not automatically mean that a Type B RCCB is required in every installation.

Test Facility

The RCCB incorporates a test facility so its residual-current operating mechanism can be functionally checked as required.

Testing and inspection should be carried out in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions and the requirements applicable to the electrical installation.

DIN Rail Mounted

The Lewden B100/30/2B is designed as a modular DIN rail mounted protective device, allowing it to be incorporated into suitable distribution equipment.

This provides a neat solution for new electrical installations and upgrades where Type B residual-current protection has been specified.

Why Choose the Lewden B100/30/2B?

The Lewden B100/30/2B provides a specialist solution where a conventional Type AC or Type A RCCB does not provide the residual-current classification required by the installation.

Combining a 100A rated current, 30mA sensitivity, 2-pole configuration and Type B residual-current detection, it is particularly suited to appropriately designed circuits containing electronic power-conversion equipment capable of producing complex residual-current waveforms.

For EV charging, renewable energy, inverter and industrial applications, it provides a practical option where the system designer or connected equipment specifically calls for Type B RCD protection.
