Lewden HPPI-R06W-AC16 PRO 6 Way Heat Pump Consumer Unit with 16A Type B-HP RCBO, B6 & B20 RCBOs and SPD

Purpose-Built Heat Pump Consumer Unit with Enhanced Type B-HP Protection

The Lewden HPPI-R06W-AC16 is a purpose-configured PRO Series 6 way consumer unit designed for modern air source heat pump (ASHP) installations. Supplied with a 16A Type B-HP heat pump RCBO, B6 and B20 Type A RCBOs, main switch and surge protection, it brings the key protective devices for a dedicated heat pump installation together in one compact enclosure.

At the heart of this configuration is Lewden's specialist 16A B-HP RCBO, designed for heat pump applications requiring enhanced Type B residual-current performance at higher frequencies. This makes the HPPI-R06W-AC16 particularly useful where the heat pump manufacturer's instructions call for this specialist protection rather than a conventional Type A RCBO.

16A Type B-HP RCBO Included

The defining feature of the HPPI-R06W-AC16 is its included 16A Type B-HP Heat Pump RCBO.

Rather than relying solely on a conventional Type A protective device for the main heat pump circuit, this configuration incorporates Lewden's specialist B-HP technology, developed for heat pump applications where the manufacturer's requirements specify enhanced Type B residual-current protection.

The 16A device combines 30mA residual-current protection with overload and short-circuit protection, eliminating the need to pair a separate Type B RCCB with an MCB.

Enhanced Protection for High-Frequency Residual Currents

Modern heat pumps frequently use inverter technology to control compressor operation. Depending on the equipment design, these systems can generate residual currents across a wider range of frequencies than conventional electrical loads.

Lewden's B-HP range has been developed for heat pump manufacturers requiring enhanced Type B protection capable of catering for higher-frequency residual currents. The B-HP technology is designed for operation at frequencies of 20kHz and above, while addressing enhanced Type B requirements up to 20kHz.

Where specified by the heat pump manufacturer, this provides a dedicated solution for residual-current characteristics that may not be appropriately addressed by more conventional protective devices.

Compact B-HP RCBO Saves Consumer Unit Space

A major advantage of Lewden's B-HP RCBO technology is its compact construction.

The specialist heat pump RCBO occupies just one 18mm module, despite combining residual-current, overload and short-circuit protection.

A conventional arrangement using a Type B RCCB alongside separate overcurrent protection can occupy approximately three modules. The B-HP RCBO therefore helps keep the HPPI-R06W-AC16 compact while retaining useful capacity for associated heat pump circuits.

B6 RCBO for Heat Pump Controls

Alongside the specialist 16A B-HP device, the consumer unit includes a 6A B Curve Type A RCBO.

This device is intended for the associated heat pump control circuit, providing individual residual-current, overload and short-circuit protection.

Separate RCBO protection helps ensure that associated circuits are individually protected rather than relying on one shared RCD for every final circuit.

B20 RCBO for Immersion Heater Circuit

A 20A B Curve Type A RCBO is also supplied, providing dedicated protection for an associated immersion heater final circuit.

Together, the 16A B-HP RCBO, B6 RCBO and B20 RCBO provide a practical starting configuration for a heat pump installation comprising the principal heat pump supply, controls and associated immersion heater.

Final circuit allocation must always follow the heat pump manufacturer's instructions and the electrical system design.

Integrated Surge Protection

The HPPI-R06W-AC16 also incorporates surge protection, helping protect the installation and connected equipment against transient overvoltages.

This is particularly valuable for heat pump systems containing sophisticated electronic controls, inverter technology and other sensitive electronic components.

Integrating the SPD within the dedicated consumer unit provides a neat solution without requiring a separate surge-protection enclosure.

Main Switch Isolation

A main switch is included to provide isolation of the dedicated heat pump consumer unit.

This allows the complete heat pump distribution arrangement to be isolated from one location while individual RCBOs provide protection and switching for their respective final circuits.

Six-Way PRO Series Configuration

The 6 way configuration provides useful flexibility for heat pump installations involving more than the three supplied protected circuits.

In addition to the included B-HP, B6 and B20 RCBOs, available capacity can be used for additional associated circuits where required by the heat pump system design and where compatible protective devices are correctly selected.

Potential additional circuits can include auxiliary or integral heater supplies, depending on the particular heat pump system.

Designed for Inverter-Driven Heat Pumps

The HPPI-R06W-AC16 is particularly relevant to inverter-driven air source heat pumps where the equipment manufacturer specifies enhanced Type B residual-current protection.

Not every heat pump requires Type B-HP protection. The RCD classification, RCBO current rating and overcurrent characteristic must therefore be selected according to the specific heat pump manufacturer's instructions, cable design and electrical installation requirements.

Why Choose the Lewden HPPI-R06W-AC16?

The Lewden HPPI-R06W-AC16 offers a significant advantage for heat pump installations requiring more than a standard collection of Type A RCBOs. Its inclusion of a dedicated 16A Type B-HP RCBO provides specialist residual-current protection for compatible inverter-driven heat pumps, while simultaneously providing overload and short-circuit protection.

The supplied B6 and B20 Type A RCBOs provide individual protection for associated circuits such as heat pump controls and an immersion heater, while the main switch and integrated SPD complete a practical dedicated distribution arrangement.

For installers, this means the principal heat pump protection components are brought together in a purpose-configured Lewden PRO 6 way consumer unit, reducing the need to assemble the arrangement from separate components while retaining capacity for additional circuits.

Most importantly, the HPPI-R06W-AC16 should be selected where the heat pump manufacturer's requirements and electrical design specify a 16A circuit with the enhanced Type B-HP protection characteristics provided by the included Lewden device.
